Recent Advances in Ultra-sensitive CCD Camera Technology

Currently, a range of CCD based imaging solutions are available for biomedical and clinical applications that are pushing the limits of sensitivity. These developments take the form of significant improvements in standard CCD and intensifier technology. In addition, novel CCD designs are appearing that promise to change the fundamental performance limits previously associated with CCDs. Current testing with avalanche gain type CCDs suggest that several improvements are needed before the technology is truly mature. As new designs emerge with this type of technology, companies like Roper Scientific will incorporate these devices and attempt to achieve the highest performance possible.
