CBN BOND BOOSTS BEARING-RACE PRODUCTION

A move to vitreous-bond CBN (cubic-boron nitride) wheels for grinding ballbearing races is one of the first production uses of this wheel material. Using this new-to-CBN bond, the wheels hold accurate form for up to 200 grinding cycles, eliminating frequent dressing cycles required with conventional aluminum-oxide (AI,O,) wheels, and making the process far more productive. And when dressing is necessary, the CBN wheels dress as quickly and simply as conventional Al_2O_3, wheels. This success shown in bearing manufacture is a good indication that these CBN wheels will find wide use in highvolume grinding of hardened-steel and cast-iron parts.
