EVALUATION OF THE EMD END EFFECT AND AWINDOW BASED METHOD TO IMPROVE EMD

摘要

The end effect is a key shortcoming of the Empirical ModeDecomposition(EMD). On the sifting process, the upperand lower envelop can have large swing. The end effectleads to fake components and an over-estimated energy ofthe signal using EMD.A relative deviation of the true signalenergy and the IMFs energy after EMD has been developedto evaluate the end effect. The end effect can be reduced byapplying a window function to the signal. The experimentresult shows the method is feasible.
