Faced with processing time uncertainties, equipmentreliability/availability, demand changes, manpowerfluctuation and so on in a dynamic manufacturingenvironment, an organization structure for agile productionscheduling and control based on MAS is put forward toachieve effective and efficient production. A hybrid multilayeragent structure is put forward to facilitate constructingvarious agents. Bidding mechanism is adopted to decomposeand assign manufacturing tasks that determine the cooperativerelationship among agents at different levels. The integrationof task assignment and scheduling is realized throughcapability matching and dynamic scheduling. Agentgranularity and MAS model are determined dynamicallyaccording to production demands. Consequently, all resourcesin a manufacturing system are reorganized into an agilemanufacturing network of agents to collaboratively plan,control and manage distributed production by exploiting theautonomous and cooperative characteristics of various agents.
