K/M/β-Mo_2C (M = Fe, Co, Ni) catalysts were prepared and the promotion effects of Fe, Co, Ni on the performance of K/β-Mo_2C catalyst were investigated. For K/β-Mo_2C catalyst, Fe, Co, Ni had similar ability of promoting the carbon chain growth, in particular, for the step of C_1 to C_2. Also, the apparent activation energy of formation of alcohols decreased over the K/M/β-Mo_2C catalysts, especially for the methanol and ethanol. However, the promotion effect of Fischer-Tropsch elements were different and followed the sequence: Ni >> Co > Fe for the activity and Fe > Co > Ni for the hydrocarbon selectivity.
