This paper introduces a unique case of unusual use of shape memory alloy. In construction works on the waterfront, basic ground is often soft, As a resul, using conventional methods wit han insert inclinometer, there is a problem that if a large-scale displacement occurs, the inclinometer can not be inserted into the guide pipe. It is very costly and time-consuming to replace the guide pipe. The shape memory alloy (SMA) wire is very thin, so that the SMA wire can be inserted even if the guide pipe is damaged. After submerging ghe SMA wire can be inserted even if the guide pipe is damaged. After submerging the SMA wire can be inserted even if the guide pipe is damaged. After submerging the SMA wire into the gound through the guide pipe. Then the SMA wire is taken out of the ground and then shape is meaaured on the gound after heating-up to Aftemperature (about 100degC). This new system using SMA wire has achieved a speedy and economical measurement of the ground displacement.
