The hot water-treatment is an important method for artificial hatching in silkworm eggs. Time measurement by esterase A4 (EA4) purified from hot water-treated eggs of Bomb vx C108 strain has been studied using ATP as a substrate. The ATPase activity-peak for EA4 purified from eggs 15 hours old appeared at hour 24 at 5℃ or hour 1.5 at 25℃ after the treatment, and the diapause of eggs is terminated rapidly. The time of ATPase activity-peak appearing for EA4 from eggs 30 hours old are shifted to an early time, the period of incubation are shifted to short and the rate of head pigmentation of embryos are shifted to high, by to increase the stimulative dose of hot water (soaking duration). The changes of ATPase activity for EA4 in hot water treated eggs is highly correlated with activation of eggs.
