As companies look for ways to make themselves more competitive - particularly in the current economy - it is important for them to aggressively examine ways to control costs and weather difficult times. Each year, companies lose millions of dollars in costs associated with injuries, illnesses, and property damage as well as indirect costs such as lost worker productivity, missed deliveries and overtime. All these could be avoided through developing a safety- focused workplace that builds trust, grows personal responsibility, and encourages accountability throughout the enterprise This is where a culture shift at all levels of the organization can save millions of dollars a year — by making safety a strategic business value and placing it on the same level as cost, productivity and human resource issues. Company that commit to safety excellence enjoy benefits that include high productivity, lower insurance premiums, better labor and community relations and higher retention rates of values employees. Roger Moore, President, DuPont Safety Resources Asia Pacific will discuss how safety and protection can be a strategic business value that links reduced workplace injuries to business performance. In his remarks, Mr Moore will share how strong safety management practices are intrinsic to security - the personal security of employees in workplace, and the e-conomic security and business value that is derived from operating safely. In addition, he will advocate the development of clear metrics that can be used to validate safety management systems and how a system's approach to safety is necessary for the future.
