Spray Characteristics of Biodiesel from Soybean Oil in Diesel Engine

As the consumption of biodiesel is increasing, the suitability of biodiesel to commercial diesel engine have been important. In this study, the spray characteristics of biodiesel fuel from soybean oil was investigated at various fuel injection conditions such as injection pressure, ambient pressure and blending ratio of biodiesel fuels. It was found that the increase of blending ratio of biodiesel had little influence on spray behaviours under fuel injection condition. Because macroscopic characteristics of biodiesel-blended diesel fuel were almost same as that of petrodiesel fuels, it was concluded that the commercial biodiesel is applicable to conventional diesel engine.
