This paper describes the grinding behavior of as-received (5% moisture) vanadium-titanium magnetite (VTM) concentrates in a ball mill. Six groups of experiments were carried out for comparing the effect of the grinding time: 3min, 6min, 9min, 12min, 30min, and 60min. After grinding the products were dried completely. Size distribution of the products were measured by laser diffraction method. The grinding kinetics equation was established based on a population balance model with the size distribution data from laser diffraction technique. It is obvious that the cumulative oversize R(x,t) decreased with the grinding time. The more the grinding time, the smaller the extent of R(x,t) decrease. The calculated size distributions agree well with the experimental size distributions.
