Abstract: In the present paper, recent experimental advancesobtained with a laser Doppler self-mixing velocimeterare reported. The self-mixing effect in a semiconductorlaser is used to realize the velocimeter. The velocityis calculated measuring the frequency peak of thefrequency spectrum of the intensity signal generated bythe laser diode when modulated by feedback light comingfrom the moving scattering particles. A special opticalfiber version of this velocimeter to be usedspecifically for intra-arterial blood velocitymeasurement has been realized and a solution forreducing temperature influence on the semiconductorperformances is proposed. The results of the in vivotests carried out with the proposed sensor arepresented. !10
