The 18,498-ft long Pulaski Skyway between Newark and Jersey City, in New Jersey,comprises two contiguous structures, over the Passaic and Hackensack Rivers. Rehabilitation to extendits service life, mitigate functional deficiencies, and improve overall conditions and safety, is under way.The rehabilitation of the Pulaski calls for independent concrete shells cast around the existing piercolumns. The shells will be supported on deep foundations (drilled shafts and/or micropiles), built next tothe remaining concrete caissons. New reinforced concrete caps will span over the existing caissons andaround the existing columns. Soil-Structure-Interaction analysis demonstrated the influence of kinematiceffects on the seismic response and the subsequent design of piers, foundations, and rehabilitation of thetrusses.
