Ultrasonic soldering of 2024 aluminum alloy with pure Sn filler metal has been investigated. The ultrasonic vibration with 200 w power and at the frequency of 21 kHz was applied on one of the samples to be bonded at 300℃. In this paper, a-Al dendrites reinforced joints were obtained by varying the ultrasonic conditions and the holding time, and the relationship between the volume fraction of aluminum dendrites in the joints and the mechanical properties of the joints has been discussed. Ultrasonic amplitude was increased from 4 μm to 10 μm. The maximum shear strength of the joints is up to 60 MPa. With the ultrasonic amplitude of 8 μm, the influence of ultrasonic action time to the volume fraction of aluminum dendrites in the joints was investigated. The influence of holding time to the volume fraction of aluminum dendrites in the joints was studied in the ultrasonic amplitude of 4 μm. The volume fraction of aluminum dendrites in the joints was measured. And the migration of aluminum dendrites in the bond from the base metal was discussed by comparing the whole results.
