In the scenario of a lack of electric power in a steel plant, emergency starting systems are generally applied to supply the electrical energy needed for critical loads and to enable the reestablishment of industrial units. These systems typically have a motor-generator set that is sized to withstand starting of loads and correct operation in regime until full power return. Based on these concepts, the present study presents the alternatives that can be adopted for the starting of large induction motors with the emergency system, in order to allow the correct reestablishment of energy for the industrial process and also optimize maintenance costs and improve asset utilization, increasing the reliability of the system.
