In this paper, a genetic algorithm is applied to determine the optimal locations for installation of photovoltaic generation units to reduce power losses in a distribuition system. Unlike other works found in the literature, it considers different irradiation for each bar of the distribution system. The proposed method is applied to discover the optimum points of installation of three distinct photovoltaic generating units in a 36-bus test system. The problem is also solved by exhaustive search in order to validate the method.
