In this paper, computational analyses were made to determine the structural integrity of underground gas storage with different geometrical characteristic. It has been proved that the pyriform is the most ideal shape of the cavern, because pyriform cavern is easy to construct and excellent in stability. In this paper,the analysis is based on the pyriform with different maximum diameter to height of cavern (D/H) ratio. Ten cases of different maximum D/H ratio (from 0.40 to 1.00) are evaluated. The intent of these calculations is to develop some guidelines to predict cavern performance and damage in salt, utilizing the three-dimensional modeling capabilities of high-performance analytical codes and sophisticated material models.
