Rock burst happens easily in deep coal mines with hard roof. Rock burst is an energy release phenomenon, based on the energy dissipation theory during rock-coal deformation, clipped coal-rock break unsteadily when its accumulating energy loses equilibrium with dissipating energy, which results in rock burst happening. Coal-rock combination samples experiments showed that rock burst more happened easily with hard roof. By theory analysis, the large area cantilevered of hard roof is the main reason of rock burst happening,according to the analysis, relaxation blasting in hard roof is brought out preventing rock burst in face 6303 from happening. Project practice proved that the measurement was effective.
