Innovations in the area of cellular polymers have a positive impact in saving energy, resources and protecting the environment by reducing the greenhouse gas emission. Due to its low weight combined with outstanding thermal and mechanical properties, polymer foams are regarded as one of the most sustainable material widely used for variety of applications. At minimal raw material consumption, foams can be tailor made for specific applications. Novel processing techniques and advanced formulations enable us to develop advanced foams with new functional properties for existing and new applications. In this paper, BASF's approach in developing innovative and sustainable foam products will be discussed.
