The main psychoactive constituent of marijuana, delta-9-trans-tetrahydrocannabinol (?9-trans-THC), first elucidated about 40 years ago by Gaoni and Mechoulam, has been shown to possess versatility physiological functions including nervous system bioactivities, immune modulation bioactivities, anticancer bioactivities and so on. This review summarized the total synthesis and biological activities of ?9-trans-THC.
