Competitive adsorption behaviour of heavy metals Cd, Cu, Pb and Zn in soils

In this study we investigated competitive adsorption of Cd (II), Cu(II), Pb(II), and Zn(II) in several acidic soils. The adsorption isotherms showed that Cu and Pb had similar but relatively higher affinity with the tested soil compared to CA and Zn, which appear to be more mobile in the soil. The calculated partitioning coefficient (kd) values were varied among the soils but correlated reasonably well with the soil pH. The general adsorption preference on soils among the four metals in single metal system is Pb≥Cu≥Zn≥Cd, and in multiple metal adsorption system is Cu≥Pb≥Zn≥Cd.
