The influence of the setting of refractory products onto tunnel kiln cars to product quality, energy consumption and to kiln capacity very often is under estimated -sometimes even unknown. Tunnel kilns are designed for the firing of a certain type of product, for a max. firing temperature and a predetermined capacity. Today many refractory manufacturing factories are operated at full or even at over capacity. To avoid the purchase of an other extremely expensive kiln, the existing installations are tuned to run on over capacity. In principle this is possible, but how much more can be produced depends on the type of product, on the kiln design, on maintenance and ...how the tuning is made.
