The situation of steel production in Europe in the last few years was characterized by increasing production of high-quality steel, e.g. ULC or low-phosphorus steel, and by high productivity of steel plants. These developments led to enhanced demand for high performance refractories, reliable constructive solutions and sophisticated tapping and purging systems supporting metallurgical work. The trend towards co-operation of steel plants and refractory producers is increasingly gaining ground. The priority is assigned no longer on achieving absolute service life records or lower refractory costs, but on implementing solutions that lead to a reduction of specific costs within the overall process and to predictable lining lives.
