LATEST CONCEPTS FOR RH-DEGASSERS AND THEIR REFRACTORY LININGS

At the beginning of the 21st century, the importance of secondary metallurgy in modern steel making is well established. Several types of processes and units, either for atmospheric or reduced pressure conditions, have become standard tools for high quality steel refining. Among those for reduced pressure conditions the RH process has become the most popular during the last 5 years. This paper describes typical modern plant layouts and their features and focuses on the refractory design of modern RH plants.
