In order to reduce the thermal conductivity of Graphite Containing Unburnt Refractories, the relation between the texture and thermal conductivity of MgO-C bricks was investigated and new products were applied to actual furnaces. Our findings were as fellows: (1) Thermal conductivity changes when the brick has different pore size distribution even if the brick has the same properties and the carbon content is equal. (2) The pore size distribution and thermal conductivity show a definite correlation, especially, thermal conductivity diminished drastically with the increase in fine pore( > 0.1 μ m) volume. (3) When the low thermal conductivity products were applied to actual furnaces, durability equal to the conventional product was maintained and heat loss was reduced.
