摘要

Enbridge operates the longest and most complex crude oil and liquids pipeline in the world. Enbridge Pipeline systems have operated for over 50 years and comprise approximately 15,000 kilometers (9,000 miles) of pipeline, delivering more than 2 million barrels per day of crude oil and liquids. A variety of in-service non-destructive examination (NDE) processes are available to pipeline operators to inspect for internal corrosion, external corrosion and cracks. Enbridge Pipelines have completed over 2000 excavations of in-line inspection (ILI) tool-identified defects in the past several years. Enbridge has tested and utilized various NDE techniques to assess these defects with varying degrees of success. This paper identifies how Enbridge has employed a selection of automated internal and external corrosion mapping systems and advanced ultrasonic flaw sizing techniques. The review of these processes and techniques states the author's views of the benefits, drawbacks and application nuances.
