The near-field rock is represented by a two-dimensionalrndiscrete-fracture network. Groundwater flow is analyzedrnby FFDF (Finite-element Flow code for Discrete-rnFracture networks) treating the fractured near-field rockrnas a heterogeneous medium and as a homogeneousrnmedium for time-independent, incompressible, Darcy’srnflow. Kozeny-Carman equation is used to obtain thernpermeability of a region by assuming the fractured localrnregion as a porous medium. As a result of this analysis,rnthe homogeneous medium model is not appropriate tornestimate the flow rate for the near-field rock with a smallrnconnectivity.
