A key issue for postclosure safety is performance of thernrepository system after breach of the waste package.rnRelease of radionuclides from a breached waste packagernmay include both advective and diffusive components.rnDiffusive release is controlled by a number of factorsrnincluding the diffusion coefficient of the material formingrnthe drift invert beneath the waste package. This paperrnreviews the available data on the diffusion coefficient ofrncrushed tuff, a candidate invert material.
