Natural convection in open spaces, such asrndrifts, is commonly modeled with porous mediarncodes and models that also include the host rock.rnAssuming equal heat transfer for both open spacernand porous media natural convection situations,rnequivalent porous media permeability andrnthermal conductivity values have been derivedrnfor the open space region based on equal heatrntransfer. These relationships are assessed byrncomparison of numerical results for open spacernand porous media cases.
