APPROACH FOR PERFORMING AN INTEGRATED SAFETY ANALYSIS FOR THE MGR

This paper describes the strategy for developing an Integrated Safety Analysis (ISA) as part of the License Application (LA) for the Monitored Geologic Repository (MGR). The strategy addresses: 1) determining the specific requirements per proposed 10 CFR 631 and NRC's acceptance criteria; 2) defining a methodology, including a means of dealing with the evolving level of design detail; and 3) documenting the ISA. This paper deals primarily with the first two areas.
