Abstract: Multiple scattering effects in droplet aerosols wereinvestigated theoretically using three differentnumerical approaches and experimentally by means of aspecially developed measuring system. The system allowsquantitative determination of laser light extinctionand scattering. Measurements were performed in scalemodel clouds formed by growing water droplets. This wasaccomplished in an expansion cloud chamber underwell-controlled laboratory conditions. In many caseshowever, the investigated models and the experimentalevidence showed substantial discrepancies depending onparameters and ranges of variables within which a modelwas used. The work is in progress and preliminaryexperimental results are discussed and compared withcomputations. Based on the experimental conditionschosen in this study, an attempt was made to explainthe accuracy of the applied models to describe multiplescattering effects in aerosols. !28
