CLEARANCE EFFECTS ON SPIRAL VIBRATIONS DUE TO RUBBING

摘要

Kellenberger's (1980) model for spiral vibrations due torubbing is extended to include the effects of a radial clearance atthe rub location. Black's (1968) model is used to incorporate theinfluence of clearance. Clearances at the rub location introducea nonlinearity and are shown to modestly improve stability. Areview of Kellenberger's model reveals that his equationsdefining the growth of the shaft due to rubbing are only correct iftwo (previously unspecified) conditions are met, and simulationsshow that both conditions are violated. However, an alternative,“kinematically-correct”, model yields results which aresignificantly less consistent with the observed behavior of spiralvibrations than Kellenberger's original model.
