摘要

This work is aimed at obtaining the transient response of anoverhung rotor when there are impacts occurring in the system.An overhung rotor clamped on one end, with a ywheel on theother and impacts occurring in between, due to a bearing withclearance, is considered. The system is modeled as a continu-ous rotor system and the governing partial dierential equationsare set up and solved. The method of assumed modes is usedto discretize the system in order to solve the partial dierentialequations. Using this method numerical experiments are runand a few of the results are presented. The dierent numeri-cal issues involved are also discussed. An experimental setupwas built to run experiments and validate the results. Prelimi-nary experimental observations are presented to show qualitativecomparison of theory and experiments.
