Controlled Vocabularies for Scientific Data: Users and Desired Functionalities

Controlled vocabularies have great applicability forrnorganizing and providing access to scientific data. Thisrnpaper presents research examining the controlledrnvocabulary use and desired application features specific tornscientific data. A survey was conducted, gathering datarnfrom U.S. DataNet participants and other data stakeholderrncommunities. Results indicate that participants seerncontrolled vocabularies as valued tools. Participants alsornreported an interest in repository technology that providesrnaccess to multiple vocabularies for scientific data.
