In order to identify water quality stratification at Nan Gang branch (NG, in herewith) in Yangtze Estuary under tidal current, field observations on current and stratification were carried out by using shipboard ADCP. At the same time water samples were collected to investigate the water quality. As a result, chemical oxygen demand (COD) and velocity distribution were illustrated and numerical simulation based on EFDC was given. The numerical simulation and field observation agrees in trend analysis, and the field observation data provided verification and calibration of numerical application.
