An Empirical Model for Thermal Conductivity of Methane Hydrate Sediment Sample

Thermal conductivity was measured for four artificial sediment samples composed of natural sand, methane hydrate, and the void saturated with gaseous methane or water by use of an apparatus based on a hot disk transient method in the temperature range from 268 to 283 K and the pressure of 10 MPa. The experimental data were correlated with a morphology model considering the equivalent electric circuit such as series, parallel and distributed connection. In the model, the characteristic dimension would be an expression for morphology of the sediment sample. The model showed reproducibility just for the sample saturated with water.Considering the characteristic dimension, three components, sand, methane hydrate and the void, were naturally mixed, and partly distributed like as a parallel model.
