COMPARISON AND ASSESSMENT OF VARIOUS VARIABLE SPEED DRIVERS FOR CENTRIFUGAL COMPRESSORS

This paper will first introduces the steam turbine, the industrial gas turbine, the variable frequency motor drive and the variable speed planetary gear (Voceron) briefly. In a second step the characteristics of three kinds of variable speed drivers are discussed. In third place we compare and assess the economy, reliability and environmental impact for gas turbine, variable frequency motor drive and variable speed planetary gear (Vorecon). To the fourth chapter introduces the existent installations of the variable speed planetary gear (Vorecon). Finally, to give priority to recommend the variable speed planetary gear (Vorecon) for natural gas booster centrifugal compressor and other variable speed applications.
