The general properties of sodium silicate bonded sands mixed with the L.D. converter slag powder to develope as a catalyst were investigated. 4~7% sodium silicate on the basis of silica sand and 30~50% L.D. converter slag powder on the basis of sodium silicate were mixed and their compressive strength, surface stability index (S.S.I.), bench time, residual moisture and retained compressive strength of the standard sand specimens were measured. The properties were similar to those of general inorganic no bake molds. The compressive strength and surface stability index were increased and the retained compressive strength, residual moisture and bench time were decreased with increased amount of the L.D. converter slag powder. The L.D. converter slag powder could be used as a catalyst for the sodium silicate bonded no bake mold.
