A method is presented for determining the optical thickness and effective radius ofwater clouds from FY-1D CHRPT data. A detailed study is presented which shows that the cloudoptical thickness and effective particle radius of water clouds can be determined solely fromreflection function measurements at channel 1 (0.58-0.68μm) and channel 6 (1.58-1.64μm) orbrightness temperature at channel 3 (3.55-3.95μm)of FY-1D/CHPRT data when cloud opticalthickness is thicker.
