This paper presents an economic dispatch model of hydro-thermal power system with large-scale wind power penetration. The economic dispatch (ED) model aims to minimize the total thermal power cost, properly arrange operation of cascade hydropower stations, and achieve the maximum consumption of wind power. Considering the randomness and fluctuation of large-scale wind power, up and down spinning reserve requirements are considered in this model. Besides, this model includes capacity constraint of transmission lines, stability constraint of power flow sections composed of transmission lines, and electric quantity trade constraint of tie lines. This model has a good accordance with practical power system operation, and the security and reliability of power system can be improved. Effectiveness of the proposed model is verified by the IEEE 30-bus system.
