In this paper, the lightning overvoltages are analyzed and compared in two specific situations: lightning applied directly to the PV array, and lightning that occurs at a point away from the PV array. The position of the lightning strike point is also considered to determine the influence of the distance between the strike point and PV array on lightning overvoltage. Lightning overvoltage causes serious damage to facilities in a solar power plant. To solve this problem, the characteristics of the overvoltage must be analyzed precisely. The information on lightning overvoltage generated by direct strike and lightning strikes at three different locations is discussed in this paper.
