In this paper, the influence of grounding wire configuration of traction substation on observed transient overvoltage at some electric machines, those are diode rectifier, series reactor and so on, is experimentally measured. According to our previous experiences, a diode rectifier is the weakness against lightning and making the transient voltage smaller can increase the reliability of traction power supply system against lightning. Now, two grounding wires are installed separately at Ooi-Futo Substation. Throughout our experiments, by connecting them and by disconnecting the one end of grounding wire near the rectifier, it was confirmed that the transient voltage observed at diode rectifier could be decreased. In this paper, some experimental results will be explained in detail.
