A201 and A202 ammonia synthesis catalysts developed by National Research Center of Chemical Fertilizer Catalysts(NCFC) have been widely employed in ammonia synthesis industry with well saving energy and increasing yield of ammonia remarkably. In order to alleviate the economic burden of middle and small plants due to the high price of Cobalt and depression of fertilizer industry, it is necessary to develop an economical Co-free ammonia synthesis catalyst with high catalytic activity. And this work has been stressedly supported by National Chemical Industry Department and Committee of Science and technology in Fujian Province. According to the mechanism of ammonia synthesis, knowledge of structure chemistry and principle of crystallography, the remnants of rare earth ores, after its expensive components abstracted, have been selected and retreated to the catalyst , and in the catalyst adding MgO,adjust some other promoters. The prescription and preparation procedure of iron-based catalyst was optimized. After fused at high temperture, some element(e.g. Ytterbium) occupy the octahedral-type interstices of iron atoms, then some kinds of the solid solution formed. The perovskite type composite oxides also formed between part of oxides light rare earth (e.g. La, Ce) and Fe_2O_3.
