摘要

This paper explores the possibility of compressing the vast amount of digitized raw data produced by weather radar into a more compact form to facilitate aohieving,transmitting,and reusing the data.In experimental situations,the raw data flow rate of 107 bite/s has been reduoed to 105 bits/s by averaging individual radar returns over a number of pulses,A further reduction of the flow rate to 103 bite/s can be achieved by sequential coding and contour description.The average compression ratio can be as high as 96 percent.
