The Byrud emerald deposit was first discovered inrnthe early 1860s, at Byrud Farm located near LakernMjøsa, southern Norway. From a geological,rngemmological, and geochemical perspective, thernByrud emeralds are of great interest as they arernvanadium-rich rather than chromium-rich, which isrnuncommon for the majority of emeralds worldwide.rnThere are only a few emerald deposits that arernvanadium-rich including Colombia; Lened in thernNorthwest Territories, Canada; Salininha in Bahia,rnBrazil; Dyakou in Yunnan, China; Panjshir,rnAfghanistan; and Gandao, Pakistan (Rondeau, 2008,rnGroat et al., 2008).
