This paper addresses the problem of developing an optimum damage tolerant structural design forrncomposite structures subjected to damage growth of various types under fatigue loading .Inspectionrnschedule is developed so that damage can be detected and repaired before failure. In order tornillustrate how uncertainty in data can affect the structural safety, we have assumed variability inrnmaterial properties and loading. The first order reliability method (FORM) is used to obtain failurernprobability of the structure at a given time, and inspection is scheduled such that a specified failurernprobability is never exceeded. The structure and inspection schedule are designed together to obtainrnminimum life cycle cost.
