Laboratory Experience with ASTM Vacuum Cleaner Performance Tests

Test methods for fractional efficiency, removal of embedded dirt, and airflow are commonly used for evaluation of household vacuum cleaners. In this paper, the ASTM methods used will be outlined, and our laboratory experience with these methods will be described. Typical data as well as interferences and recommendations will be presented.The methods covered will be :1. ASTM F 608, ' Evaluation of Carpet Embedded Dirt Removal Effectiveness of Household/Commercial Vacuum Cleaners.2. ASTM F 558 ' Measuring Air Performance Characteristics of Vacuum Cleaners'3.
