Public Opinion via Focus Group on energy scenarios including fusion and on ITER sitting in Cadarache

The problematic of future energies relates to different concepts such as "renewable energies"; "sustainable development". Everywhere in the world scientists dedicate their time and their research to these future energies according different points of view. Their significance relates to the scientific challenge but also to the society's choice, which will fashion the daily life of the future generations. Today the nuclear fusion and the ITER project are on the agenda of international and European discussions, ITER being a necessary step in the research still needed prior to a potential fusion based power station. The following step is the choice of the ITER site, for which several countries applied: Canada; Spain; France and Japan. At the occasion of the European program on socio-economic research on fusion (SERF 3), we had the opportunity to investigate the public opinions and information needs on the potential implantation of ITER sitting in Cadarache, France. How do people perceive these future energies, their scientific and societal challenges? How do they take position? On which arguments are their opinions and attitudes based?
