The objective of investigation was to prepare nanoemulsion containing ropinirole (ROP) to achieve the delivery of drug to the brain via intra nasal route. Conventional (NE_(rop)) and mucoadhesive (MNE_(ROP)) nanoemulsion carrying ROP were characterized on the bases of thermodyanamic stability, dispersibility, percentage drug release, viscosity, particle size distribution, globule shape and size and zeta potential. Ternary phase diagrams were constructed to locate the area of nanoemulsion for the selected systems. The composition of optimized formulation was Sefsol 218 (10% v/v), Tween 80 (18% v/v), Labrasol (18% v/v) and Water (54% v/v) as oil, surfactant, cosurfactant and aqueous phase respectively containing 5 mg of ROP showing drug release (98.13±5.79%), globule size (40.9±0.137nm), polydispersity (0.271), viscosity (25.68±0.053 cps) and infinite dispersion capability. To potentiate in vitro data of the optimized formulations, ex vivo nasal mucosal permeation were performed with Franz diffusion cells using excised goat nasal mucosa.
