This presentation will discuss the application of vibration analysis as a condition based monitoring technology used to detect failure modes in rotating assets specific to a coal preparation plant. The presentation will focus on which types of machinery problems can be accurately identified utilizing a modern spectral analyzer. Examples of specific faults such as rolling element bearing faults, imbalance, misalignment, gear problems, lubrication problems and electrical faults will be shown. Equipment types such as conveyors, crushers and pumps will be addressed. In addition, a brief introduction to using vibration analysis to determine the asset health and performance characteristics of vibrating screens will be demonstrated. Attendees will discover how vibration analysis can be used to detect machinery defects long before the human senses can, thus giving the coal prep plant manager extended lead times to organize resources to deal with the impending machinery failure and associated downtime.
