In order to find an efficient and feasible technological rout to dispose and utilize deoiled asphalt (DOA,a byproduct of solvent deasphalting process), the co-pyrolysis/gasification of DOA with lignite wasinvestigated. A series of isothermal co-pyrolysis experiments were conducted in a fixed bed reactor toobserve the characteristics of the chars yields and the pattern of the blends. Then a set ofnon-isothermal experiments were performed by thermogravimetric system to evaluate the gasificationcharacteristics of the chars of lignite, DOA and the blends. It was observed that the DOA has the lowestreactivity for its low surface area, high graphitic carbon structure and low ash content. The reactivity ofthe co-pyrolysis chars was found higher than that of the calculated, this clearly demonstrating that thesynergetic effect is existed during the co-gasification process.
